物种引言
Gesomyrmex curiosus is an extinct ant species known only from a single fossilized head specimen discovered in the Messel formation of Germany, dating to the Middle Eocene approximately 47 million years ago. The genus Gesomyrmex belongs to the subfamily Formicinae and is considered a megathermal ant group, indicating it lived in warm tropical or subtropical forests during the Eocene when global temperatures were significantly higher than today. The head morphology shows distinctive features - it is subtrapezoid in shape, broader at the front than the back, with a weakly projected anterior clypeal margin forming a small rounded lobe. The species was described in 2009,but more recent research has suggested it may be a synonym of Gesomyrmex hoernesi based on comparative morphological analysis . This species represents an arboreal ant that lived in ancient European forests and has no living descendants.
