Giriş

Camponotites steinbachi is an extinct ant species known from a single fossil specimen discovered in Late Pliocene deposits at Willershausen in Lower Saxony, northern Germany . The species was described in 2011 by Dlussky, Karl, and Brauckmann based on a winged queen (gyne) preserved in clay sediment . The genus Camponotites is related to modern carpenter ants (Camponotus), representing an extinct lineage that lived during the Late Pliocene epoch .
