Introduction
Tetramorium impressum is a small ground-dwelling ant from southwestern Western Australia. Workers measure 2.9–4.1mm and range from yellow-brown to mid-brown, often with a lighter gaster than the rest of the body . It may actually be a group of closely related species – some workers have black foreparts and yellow gasters, while others are reddish with finer body sculpture . This ant is common in newly rehabilitated sand mines and other early successional habitats, where it collects seeds of grasses and herbs . It becomes much less abundant as the habitat matures and is considered an opportunist species .
