Introduction

Plagiolepis kuenowi is an extinct ant species known only from Late Eocene amber deposits, dating back approximately 44-49 million years. Workers measured 1.4-2.7 mm in length, with a smooth, shiny body and 10-11 segmented antennae . This species belonged to the Formicinae subfamily and was a dominant or sub-dominant ant in Eocene ecosystems, found across Baltic, Bitterfeld, Rovno, and Scandinavian ambers . This species went extinct millions of years ago, so no living colonies exist. The information here is for educational interest only.
