Introduction
Archimyrmex rostratus is an extinct species of bulldog ant known only from fossil specimens preserved in the Green River Formation of Colorado, USA. Dating to the Eocene epoch approximately 48.5 to 53.5 million years ago, this species represents an ancient member of the subfamily Myrmeciinae . Based on fossil evidence, females reached 13.2-15.8 mm in body length with distinctive long mandibles bearing coarse teeth, an elongated body form, and a long stalk-like petiole . As this species has been extinct for roughly 50 million years, it cannot be kept in captivity and no care guidelines exist.
