Введение

Formica alsatica is an extinct ant species known only from fossil specimens preserved in Oligocene amber deposits from the Upper Rhine Graben of Kleinkems in what is now France . This species lived approximately 30+ million years ago during the late Eocene to early Oligocene period. Only fossilized queen specimens have been documented, with no worker casts known from the fossil record. As a fossil species, Formica alsatica cannot be kept in captivity - there are no living specimens to collect or maintain.
