Introdução

Dolichoderus polonicus is an extinct ant species known only from Eocene Baltic amber, approximately 44 million years old. Workers measured 4.5-5.5mm in body length . The species belongs to the subfamily Dolichoderinae and was described based on fossil specimens preserved in ancient amber deposits found in the Baltic region and Rovno . This ant lived during the Eocene epoch when the climate was much warmer than today, and the Baltic amber forests featured tropical and subtropical plant species. As a fossil species, no living specimens exist, and it cannot be kept in captivity.
