Introductie

Stigmatomma electrinum is an extinct ant species known only from a few male specimens preserved in Baltic amber from the Late Eocene . Males measure about 3 mm in body length with a head that widens toward the front, large kidney-shaped eyes placed far forward, short antennae, and broad wings with several closed cells . The body is shiny with very fine surface texture, and standing hairs are only present on the mandibles and the tip of the gaster . Originally described as Amblyopone electrina, it was later moved to the genus Stigmatomma . Since this species has been extinct for tens of millions of years, it cannot be kept in captivity.
