Introductie
Solenopsis atavina is an extinct ant species known only from Miocene fossil specimens found in Crimea . The holotype (likely a queen) measures 5.8-6.0 mm in total body length . Morphological features include a two-segmented waist, an oval gaster, and a long narrow mesosome that is 2.2 times longer than wide . The propodeum lacks spines or teeth, and the occipital head margin is smoothly rounded . This species is most similar to the fossil species Solenopsis blanda, but is distinguished by its proportionally longer thorax . As a fossil species, no living colonies exist, and no biological or behavioral data can be directly observed.
