The species was originally described as Camponotus longus by Zhang in 1989 and was later reclassified into the genus Camponotites by Boudinot et al. in 2024. Only fossil queen specimens have been documented. This species lived approximately 15-20 million years ago during the Miocene period and has no living representatives. As a fossil species, it cannot be kept in captivity.
