Bevezetés

Strumigenys electrina is an extinct ant from the Miocene epoch, preserved in Dominican amber . Workers measured 1.84-1.88 mm total length, making them tiny ants with short, triangular mandibles typical of the trap-jaw genus Strumigenys . The species was described in 1994 from fossil specimens and closely resembles the living North American species Strumigenys ohioensis . As a fossil, it is used as a calibration point for molecular studies dating ant evolution . This species cannot be kept in captivity because it has been extinct for millions of years.
