Bevezetés

Gesomyrmex incertus is an extinct ant species from the Late Eocene period, approximately 34-56 million years ago. Known only from fossil specimens found in the Bol'shaya Svetlovodnaya deposits of Sikhote-Alin in the Russian Far East, this species belongs to the subfamily Formicinae and tribe Gesomyrmecini. The queen (gyne) had distinctive features including an elongate head with a concave occipital margin and eyes positioned at midlength . Recent research has suggested this species may be synonymous with Gesomyrmex cf. hoernesi, as the distinguishing characteristics were not definitively supported by morphometric analysis . This species lived during a warm period in Earth's history when the region had a megathermal climate.
