Introduction

Podomyrma mayri is a small ant species described from Sicilian amber fossils. Workers are approximately 3 mm in length , with a shiny body, sparsely pilose, and coloration ranging from dark ferruginous to testaceous . The head is slightly longer than wide, and the thorax has dorsal margination . This species is known only from fossils, with modern relatives found in Australia and surrounding regions. The most notable aspect is its historical role as the type species for the subgenus Acrostigma, established by Emery in 1891 .
