Introduction
Liometopum oligocenicum is an extinct ant species known only from Baltic amber deposits dating to the late Eocene period, approximately 36 million years ago . Only two worker specimens have ever been documented, both preserved in ancient amber from the Baltic region . As a member of the subfamily Dolichoderinae, this species is related to modern Liometopum ants, which are known for building large arboreal carton nests and forming massive colonies that may extend from tree to tree . The species was originally described by Wheeler in 1915 based on these fossil specimens .
