Introducción
Pachycondyla oligocenica is an extinct ant species known only from fossilized male specimens discovered in Late Eocene deposits at Bol'shaya Svetlovodnaya in the Russian Far East . Males measure approximately 7 mm in body length, with a nearly square head, large convex eyes, and toothless mandibles that are not opposable . The mesosoma is relatively long compared to its height, and the petiole has a distinctive high, rounded node . This species represents one of only two known fossil male Pachycondyla specimens from the Late Eocene, with the name deriving from the Oligocene epoch . As an extinct fossil species, Pachycondyla oligocenica cannot be kept in captivity - there are no living specimens in existence.
