Introduction

Vollenhovia prisca is an extinct ant species known only from a single fossil specimen preserved in Upper Eocene amber from Central and Eastern Europe, approximately 33-40 million years old . It belongs to the subfamily Myrmicinae and is housed in the Wheeler collection . No living colonies or specimens exist anywhere on Earth.
