Introduction

Plagiolepis wheeleri is an extinct ant species known only from fossil specimens preserved in Baltic amber, dating to the Late Eocene period approximately 44 million years ago . Workers measured 2.3 mm in body length, with a smooth, nearly hairless body and 10-segmented antennae . This species represents an ancient form that no longer exists in the modern world.
