This species represents a significant portion of the ant fauna from this ancient ecosystem, comprising roughly 27% of all ant fossils recovered from the formation . The genus Liometopum belongs to the subfamily Dolichoderinae and includes several living species in North America, though miocenicum itself is no longer extant.
