Introduction

Dolichoderus sculpturatus is an extinct ant species known only from Eocene Baltic amber, approximately 44-49 million years old. Workers measured less than 4-5mm in body length, with numerous short standing hairs covering the body and legs . This species was originally described as Hypoclinea sculpturata by Mayr in 1868 before being moved to the genus Dolichoderus [AntWiki]. The species has been found in Baltic, Bitterfeld, Jutland, and Rovno ambers, representing a small percentage of the ant fossils preserved in these deposits . This is a fossil species that went extinct approximately 45 million years ago. No living colonies exist, and this species cannot be kept or cared for in any way. This caresheet provides scientific information only.
