Introduction
Dolichoderus mesosternalis is an extinct ant species known only from Eocene Baltic amber, dating back approximately 44-49 million years . Workers measured 5-6 mm in body length and possessed distinctive morphological features including a very high propodeum, a petiolar scale, and coarse sculptural pitting on the head, mesosoma, and petiole . This species has been found in Baltic, Bitterfeld, and Scandinavian amber deposits . As a fossil species, Dolichoderus mesosternalis no longer exists and cannot be kept in captivity.
