Introduction

Bradoponera meieri is an extinct ant species preserved in Baltic amber from the Eocene epoch, approximately 44-49 million years ago. This species was first described by Mayr in 1868 based on worker specimens, making it one of the earliest described fossil ant species. The genus Bradoponera belongs to the subfamily Proceratiinae, which represents some of the most ancient ant lineages known from the fossil record. Only fossil specimens preserved in amber exist - no living specimens of this species or its genus have ever been found.
