Einleitung

Ponera lobulifera is an extinct ant species known only from Eocene Baltic amber, dating back approximately 44-49 million years . Males measured 3.25-3.75 mm in body length, with features like oval convex eyes shifted anteriorly, short antennae, and a rounded propodeum . The species has also been identified in Rovno amber from Ukraine, expanding its known distribution . It lived in warm temperate forests in what is now Northern Europe . This species provides a detailed glimpse into ant diversity during the Eocene, preserved in amber with remarkable morphological clarity .
