Einleitung
Formica heteroptera is an extinct ant species known only from a single fossil wing specimen discovered in Eocene deposits at the Bagshot Beds in Bournemouth, England . The original description was made by T.D.A. Cockerell in 1920 based on wing measurements, with the forewing measuring approximately 13.5mm in length . More recent taxonomic review has determined that this specimen does not actually belong to the genus Formica and may represent a distinct genus . As a fossil species from approximately 45-50 million years ago, no living specimens exist and no biological or behavioral data is available.
