Einleitung

Dolichoderus longipennis is an extinct ant species known from Late Eocene amber deposits, approximately 33.9-56 million years old. The species was described from fossil specimens found in Baltic amber (Gulf of Gdańsk), Bitterfeld amber, Jutland amber, and Rovno amber across Central and Eastern Europe . The males of this species are distinctive for having wings that strongly extend beyond the abdomen apex, with wing length greater than the body length - a feature that gives the species its name 'longipennis' (long-winged) . As a member of the subfamily Dolichoderinae, this ant would have been related to other cone ants and odorous ants, though no living specimens exist.
