Einleitung

Aphaenogaster khomychi is an extinct ant species known only from a single worker preserved in Late Eocene Rovno amber from Ukraine . This species lived approximately 34 to 38 million years ago during the Eocene period. The holotype worker measures 4.7 mm in total length and displays a distinctly elongated head with strongly reduced body sculpture compared to other amber Aphaenogaster species . Radchenko described this species in 2025 and dedicated it to Mykola Khomych, who provided the amber specimen to science . No living colonies exist today, and this species cannot be kept in captivity.
